Photography 🢒 Alberta 2008-2021

Image

Henderson Lake, Lethbridge, 2020.

The lake is artificial and quite shallow, dug out of a slough back in 1908-1909. Both it and the park around it are favourite local areas for activity. The gun is a newer addition, acquired after World War One but I don't know when it was finally placed in the park.

I lived in Lethbridge for 12 years while growing up, and got most of my schooling there. For decades after, I returned for family visits.

It's only accurate to say that I've never liked Lethbridge. Partly it's that I'm just not fond of flat prairie, but it also collected far too many people who confuse conformism with morality.

It's only fair to also say that they take community pride and community service seriously there, and I admire that. This photo encapsulates that attitude, a bit.

Also, although hearing it may give some folks farther west a stroke, the locals are mostly friendlier than in some places with more liberal reputations.
